Pandemic-Flu, H5N1, Bird-Flu fact finder, Spin remover!

We hope to try and extract the “real news” related to the Bird Flu, H5N1 virus, from all of the global info-clutter, that is pushed down our collective throats each day.

  1. I’m myself working in Jakarta Indonesia via Los Angeles and was interested to find this site. However, I think you have some serious issues in the way you are presenting information:

I think one issue in particular points to the problem — I’m sure your intentions are good, but don’t you think your sensationalist mis-use of punctuation is contrary to your tagline — ‘fact finder, spin & bullshit remover’ ? If you want to have ANY air of legitimacy I suggest you refrain from ending your posts with five question marks and three exclamations points. They give the whole site a rather shrill panicked quality.

Bullshit = subjective emotionally driven reporting. I think the paranoid, panicked tone of the site flirts very dangerously with becoming excatly this.

  2. Dear Ms Montecourt,

    Thank you for your comment.

These are all valid points and in fact similar points were raised as objections by our sister site, http://www.birdflubreakingnews.com (which is now the oldest and the largest news and blog related to Bird-flu gatherer site on the web.) when I was about to start on the birdflunewsflash project.

I suppose that as the BFBN site got bigger, it also got to be more and more conservative:)

However, over the last three years of focusing on the Bird-Flu virus, I have found that there have been a number of actions and some cases of deliberate inaction, by the very institutions which are supposed to be fighting this possible disaster on behalf of us all.

I would normally add an exclamation point here:)

I also found that there was no one questioning the really amazing behavior of these global institutions.

My last post is a case in point.

The distribution of 100,000 “Bird-Flu prevention kits to Indonesians!”

Now do you think that the said “Bird-Flu prevention kits” are going to prevent the advance of Bird-Flu?

Yet a global giant of an institution like UNICEF, thinks that what the Indonesians really need to stop the spread of the Bird-Flu, is some soap and has spent hunderds of thousands of Dollars on the “Bird-Flu prevention kits”.

Yes, there would be a few exclamation points just after the above. Does such a story not demand to be highlighted though?

I would like to thank you again for the interest that you evidently have in the problem of the Bird-Flu and hope that you would continue to tell me where I have been, well, a bit excessive in my remarks, so that I can try and control my natural reactions:)

FYI http://www.birdflubreakingnews.com is in the process of creating a global pandemic flu forum with participation not only from the USA and Europe, as is the case with most forums at this time, but also from the rest of the world, including the countries where the Bird-Flu virus has actually been killing people at an increasing rate.

I hope that you would enrich the above mentioned forum with your participation.

    Thanks again.

    JM Tom

  3. I eagerly await your comments every week. Invariably you hit the nail on the head.

Having lived in Asia for most of my formative years, I am of the opinion that we will be battling to get the real numbers of people dying with H5N1. The fear of loss of face, loss of foreign investment and the loss of tourist dollars will prevent a true accounting of the real mortality rate.

I enjoy your comments because you are not afraid to call a spade a spade.

    Thank You.
